St. John Lee - back corner of church and churchyard
The two flat grave panels are of those of my grandfather's ancestors, Edward KELL and James ARMSTRONG. Their epitaphs read:
Edward KELL (darker coloured panel)
In memory of George KELL of Codlaw Hill who died Sept 8 1810 aged 77 years. Edward KELL nephew of the above died May 7 1859 aged 91 years. He was temperate in all things and eminently charitable. His sympathy was ever extended to the afflicted and the poor and needy always found relief at his door. At his death he was lamented by all who knew him.
James ARMSTRONG (lichen-covered panel)
In affectionate remembrance of James ARMSTRONG of Codlaw Hill who served his country 23 years in the 3 Battalion of the Royal Artillery in foreign and home service departed this life Dec 8 1878 aged 74 years. Farewell dear son a long farewell, For we shall meet no more, Till we are raised with Christ to dwell, On Zion's happy shore. Also George Edward Kell son of the above who died at Melbourne Australia on Wednesday January 30th 1878 aged 24 years. In peace he lived in peace he died, His life was craved but God denied.
