9 Portland Street, Manchester
A splendid facade of restrained opulence, if that isn't oxymoronic. One of a group of three former warehouses by Edward Walters, of which only the facades remain (see also SJ8498 : 3-5 Portland Street, Manchester and SJ8498 : 7 Portland Street, Manchester). This was built in 1851-52. Rusticated ground floor, moulded window surrounds and quoins, subtle variation in the details on each floor and beautifully proportioned (SJ8498 : Detail of 9 Portland Street, Manchester). Grade II listed.
Behind the facade are offices.
