A shiny confection, its Burmantofts terracotta and faience cladding making it look good enough to eat. By Woodhouse, Willoughby & Langham, 1901-06, who won a competition. A most attractive building with a Baroque skyline of turrets, chimneys and gables. Grade II* listed.
A large three-sided complex originally also containing a fire station and coroner's court, but currently entirely, or at least mostly, unoccupied. One hopes viable new uses can be found.
