The majestic former main building of the Municipal School of Technology, by Spalding & Cross, 1895-1912, in a Loire style. Very tall with ornate gables, emphatic centrepiece (SJ8497 : Detail of former UMIST building, Sackville Street, Manchester (2)), all in brick, red stone and Burmantofts terracotta carved panels (SJ8497 : Detail of former UMIST building, Sackville Street, Manchester (1)). Grade II listed.
Currently used by the new, improved University of Manchester which resulted from the merger of the old UoM and UMIST.
