67 Whitworth Street, Manchester
Aka Lancaster House. Even by the standards of Manchester's imposing former warehouses, this is breathtakingly, er, imposing, with its remarkable corner turret extending in four stages above the rest of the building (SJ8497 : Detail of 67 Whitworth Street, Manchester). Otherwise it is a characteristic combination of brick and orange terracotta. Built 1905-10. Grade II* listed.
One of several massive steel-framed former Lloyds packing warehouses in the area, all by Harry S. Fairhurst, and all now offices or flats. Pevsner notes that Lloyds "was formed in 1896 and within thirty years was packing and despatching one third of foreign cotton trade in Lancashire.
