The remarkable Tiled Hall is now used as a cafe. When it was opened as a reading room in 1884, the "Yorkshireman" newspaper feared that the ceiling with its mosaic of hexagonal bricks was so magnificent "people will be continually gazing up at it, instead of quietly reading the magazines and newspapers" LinkExternal link .
