This is a is a secular shrine to all (particularly game) anglers; Charles Cotton wrote the fly-fishing section of Isaac Walton's 'The Compleat Angler' in 1676. He lived in nearby Beresford Hall and practised his sport on the trout and grayling of the River Dove.
