Old Bank Building, Corporation Street, Manchester
Originally a bank, but later offices for the Co-operative Wholesale Society, built 1928 by its chief architect, W.A. Johnson. Stolidly monumental with giant pilasters and rusticated ground floor. Grade II listed.
This small corner of Manchester could be nicknamed Co-op -ville: next door is a bit of New Century House (SJ8498 : Co-operative Insurance Society Tower and New Century House, Miller Street, Manchester) and in the background is the Hanover Building (SJ8498 : Hanover Building, Corporation Street, Manchester).
