Albert Bridge House, Bridge Street, Manchester (1)
"One of the first and best big post-war buildings in the city", was Pevsner's verdict. Built in 1958-59 as tax offices to the designs of E.H. Banks of the Ministry of Works. Clad in Portland stone, with windows grouped in threes above blue-grey spandrels. There are also three much smaller blocks in the complex (SJ8398 : Albert Bridge House, Bridge Street, Manchester (2)). See also SJ8398 : Detail of Albert Bridge House, Bridge Street, Manchester.
It is currently occupied by the Department for Work and Pensions.
