NG8327 : East from Angel's Hill

taken 7 years ago, near to Kirkton, Highland, Great Britain

East from Angel's Hill
East from Angel's Hill
The iron fence in the foreground completely surrounds the circular hilltop, and protects a small burial ground from locally grazing cattle. The hill was once topped by an Iron Age dłn. The view includes, on the right, the A87 road, with the A890 curving up the hill to the left. The small cluster of buildings are the village of Auchtertyre. The largest white building is the primary school.

Footnote: Geograph Moderator James Yardley has pointed out that the Gaelic name for this hill is Cnoc nan Aingeal, which translates as 'Hill of the Angels', so the singular Angel in the popular English spelling of the name of the hill should strictly be a plural (Angels').
