Canal milepost north of Audlem, Cheshire
This is by Lock No 5 of the Audlem flight of fifteen.
The canal was originally named the Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal, built in 1825-1835, and joined the Birmingham Canal Navigations via the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal at Autherley Junction. To the north, it joined the Ellesmere and Chester Canal Company at Nantwich in 1846, then the new company, The Shropshire Union Railways and Canal Company was formed.
