Old curling pond
Old curling pond
The pool at the centre of the photograph is located in the fields associated with NS3876 : Dalmoak Farm. It was formerly a curling pond, and is first depicted on OS maps after the Second World War. It has probably not been used as a curling pond for several decades; in fact, it is now often dry.

For a view from a different angle, see NS3976 : Old curling pond.

The present picture was taken from beside the A82 (on foot, not from a car). Earlier in the post-war period, before that road was built, the pool was more readily accessibly; the route leading there from the north passed a large mound known locally as the ashy coup (or cowp).

The houses in the background are in Quarry Knowe and adjacent streets, in the Castlehill area of Dumbarton.
