Former Paddington Maintenance Depot, Harrow Road
A remarkable building ingeniously slotted into a narrow space between Harrow Road and the Westway. It looks like a ship sailing between the two. The curves and continuous windows are more than a little redolent of the Moderne style. Built for British Rail, 1968, by Bicknell & Hamilton. A plaque records that it won a Concrete Society award in 1969. Grade II* listed.
BR didn't stay long, it was offices for a time, but currently I think it's empty. Pevsner commented that demolition was proposed in 1990, thankfully its listing in 1994 put paid to that (one hopes).
