Fletton: Former Hicks Brick Works
The 1926 Ordnance Survey map shows a large brick works pit in this field, excavated by the Hicks Brick Works. Later, by the time that the 1971 edition had been published, a double track railway line had been built to serve Hicks' other works further to the south. When the A1139 Fletton Parkway was built on the distant embankment the railway had still to be accommodated, hence the need for the large bridge. This is the view from the Hicks Lane bridge over the railway. For a view in the opposite direction please see TL1896 : Fletton: Former Hicks Brick Works.
