The starkly simple concrete of the turrets above this spillway suggest that it was a much later addition to the reservoir (originally constructed during the First World War, see the ornate tower on the opposite end of the dam LinkExternal link. Looking over the water to the prominent wooded hump of Kirkcarrion.
