The Titanic Signature Project, Belfast (69)
See J3575 : The Titanic Signature Project, Belfast (68). The building seen from beside the Abercorn Basin. This photograph meets all legal requirements (I hope) having been told before that the Titanic Quarter is private property where photography needs permission. Today two very helpful “Odyssey” security personnel reminded me that the area at the back of the “Odyssey” is private property where photography is allowed only in the outward direction. Any other direction needs permission. In the circumstances I had to apologise and leave. Obviously they had the benefit of perusing the Vesting Order and title deeds and satisfying themselves as to proper title. I had been under the illusion that the path from the Queen Elizabeth Bridge along Queen’s Quay and the Abercorn Basin was in public ownership in the name of the Department for Social Development as successor to the Laganside Corporation LinkExternal link but I was wrong.
I hope that this clarifies matters for anyone who might be considering taking a photograph in a southward direction.
"Titanic Belfast" (originally the Titanic Signature Project)
Work started, in May 2009, on what, at the time, was known as “The Titanic Signature Project”. The building opened to the public on 31 March 2012. This is a series of photographs showing the construction work underway and after the public opening. It is owned by an independent charitable trust known as Titanic Foundation Limited LinkExternal link.
The site occupies some 75 acres of waterfront, former industrial land on the eastern side of the River Lagan in the Titanic Quarter and close to the centre of Belfast. The architects were Todd Architects who designed J3372 : Department of Architecture, Queen's University, Belfast (2) and J3474 : The "Boat" site, Belfast (42).
