Railway Bridge near Merley
Railway Bridge near Merley
This three arch brick bridge carries a minor road over the old track bed of the Poole to Blandford Forum railway line. This was part of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. This particular section between Broadstone and Sleight near Corfe Mullen was built in 1885 to link up the Blandford to Wimborne and Poole to Wimborne lines which had been built much earlier. It closed to passenger traffic 7th March 1965 and closed completely on 6th June 1969.
