NY6140 : A tree above the clouds

taken 12 years ago, near to Gamblesby, Cumbria, England

A tree above the clouds
A tree above the clouds
As we descended the track towards Gamblesby we reached the tenuous edge of the cloud inversion which has filled the Eden Valley all day. This large silver birch tree was right on the upper limit. We could feel the temperature start to fall before we actually entered the mist proper. Floating serenely above is Blencathra in the northern fells of the Lake District. From here it was all downhill - no views, cold, grey and clammy.
