The confluence of two small aqueducts this headpond leads the water of the Brannie Burn into the Clachan Tunnel, taking water from Lower Loch Shira to the turbine at Clachan Power Station in Glen Fyne. Part of the Shira Hydroelectric Scheme constructed by the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board in the 1950's.
