Geograph - photograph every grid square

This type of pond is starting to appear throughout SE Northumberland. This pond probably formed from collapse of 19th century workings. As larger 20th century pits are now abandoned larger subsidence ponds are likely to appear. Waterlogged areas are starting to appear in agricultural land throughout the area which will continue to subside. The upside is they form excellent habitat for wildlife.
