Standing stones, Scales Moor
These large flakes of limestone have been jammed upright in the grikes of the limestone pavement in this corner of the moor. They look to have been deliberately placed this way but there is no indication of their purpose (if any). It all adds to the air of mystery and eeriness as the dusk gathers over Whernside and the vast expanse of the moor.
