Hurdlow Station 1968
Hurdlow Station 1968
Hurdlow Station on the Ashbourne to Buxton line was like the rest, of all wood construction. The line closed to regular passenger traffic in 1954 (Hurdlow Station, in fact closed in 1949) but the line remained open for mineral traffic and the odd special excursion train until the late 1960s; the track was lifted in 1969. A little time before complete closure the line was improved and re-ballasted, and this is clearly evident in the picture. In 1968 only the remnants of the wooden platform remained. Today, the track is a part of the Tissington walking and cycling trail.
