Turnover Bridge near Church Eaton, Staffordshire
Turnover Bridge near Church Eaton, Staffordshire
This is bridge No 26 across the Shropshire Union Canal, which carries a lane between Church Eaton and Moreton.

A turnover bridge is designed to allow a horse to change from one side of the canal to the other without being unhitched from the boat.
Some fool decided to paint many of the bridges white in the 1980s(?) and the canal has been suffering with the consequent ageing drab greyness ever since.
