Wouldham :: TQ7164
Wouldham is a small village on the bank of the River Medway in Kent. It has an 11th century church, one school, one village shop, and three public houses. The village grew in the 19th century due to the nearby chalk quarries. Until 1963 there was a ferry across the River Medway.
Walter Burke, who had the distinction of being the purser aboard Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar and of having cradled Lord Nelson himself in his arms as the great man died, was a resident of the village and is buried in the churchyard.

Village Halls
A village hall is usually a building within a village which contains at least one large room, usually owned by and run for the benefit of the local community. Such a hall is typically used for a variety of public and private events, such as parish council meetings, sports club functions, local drama productions, dances, jumble sales and private parties. Village halls sometimes have charitable status. They are occasionally called the village institute rather than village hall or community centres.
