The George, Station Road
I think this is the only public house in this collection no longer trading as a pub. It seems, from the window displays and the lack of black on the word Hotel, it was functioning as a clothes shop in 1971.

Old pubs in Harlow
In 1971 I was a student on a foundation art course at Harlow Technical College. We were given a project on Harlow in 1948 - the year the New Town was planned. This involved, amongst other things, photographing the pubs which existed in the old town and what were then surrounding villages. Part of the reasoning behind this being that all pubs built as part of the New Town development were named after butterflies or moths so the older public houses stood out.
This is the resulting collection of images.
