This is the view from the upper level of the vertical cross compound engine from Denby Dale. Nearest is the Robey cross compound drop valve engine. Immediately beyond that is a collection of governors and then the Musgrave non-dead-centre engine. In the distance is the double beam engine. On the left is a row of small engines that drove ancillary machinery in the textile trades as well as a college test engine from the days when practical heat engines were on the syllabus.
