SE2158 : Direction stone, High Birstwith - South face

Direction stone, High Birstwith - South face
Direction stone, High Birstwith - South face
David Rogers has already photographed the north side of this stone, but the south side is badly worn and it is difficult to decipher the writing. It may say 'To Knaresborough', which would make sense as the ancient bridge at Hampsthwaite is not far away, and it once carried the main road from York to Lancaster. The stone appears to be undated [and isn't listed], although it is shown on the OS map of 1853 as 'Direction Stone' and in 1891 as 'Guide Stone'.
