Wood Lane and Barkestone Wood
Wood Lane and Barkestone Wood
Named after the villages below, this belt of mixed woodland clads the steep hill that dominates this edge of the Vale of Belvoir. Leaving Barkestone-le-Vale, Wood Lane runs "Roman road" straight until it turns sharply at the foot of the hill and climbs nearly 300 feet through the trees. To achieve a good overall view the photo was taken at SK 791 334. The grid boundary with SK 79 32 is just beyond the tree in the centre.
