Originally built in the 12th century the Grade II* listed church ( LinkExternal link ) was rebuilt in 1585 with extensive restoration carried out by Thomas Wyatt, an Irish British architect well known for his work on churches ( LinkExternal link ), in 1865. 2009 saw further major restoration carried out following the commissioning of a memorial to the former Prime Minister, Sir Anthony Eden, a local resident. Anthony Eden's tomb is in the foreground and can be seen in detail in ST9723 : Tomb of Anthony Eden, Earl of Avon 1897-1977 by Trish Steel.
