In their program of habitat management necessary with the concentration of fallow deer in the park they allow fallen trees to naturally decay and thus provide shelter and sustenance to an extended range of food chain constituents than would otherwise be the case. Everything benefits from bacteria upwards through the predatory chain of insects and birds etc and the decayed vegetable matter is recycled though the soil.
