Daily Express Building, Great Ancoats Street, Manchester
Daily Express Building, Great Ancoats Street, Manchester
An impeccable example of 1930s Modernism, moderne in its curves and modern in its curtain walling. The facade of clear and black glass is completely flush. It gleams on those occasional sunny days in Manchester. By Owen Williams, 1939, the last, and arguably best, of his three buildings for the paper. Grade II* listed.
Since 1960 the building has been sympathetically extended four times. The Express left in the 1980s, and the building is now flats and offices.
