Heathland, Turf Hill
A typical scene in the New Forest, a hunting forest that needed wide open spaces to allow the hunters to chase the deer safely. The Heather in the foreground has been burnt recently (in the last year or so) to allow new growth in both the Heather plants and the tough, sweet, heath grass below. The tree nearest the camera is a Holly that has been heavily grazed at the base by the ponies that roam the New Forest.
