The Monks's Road and Whiteley Nab
The Monks's Road and Whiteley Nab
Pine-capped Whiteley Nab with the conurbation of Glossop visible beyond. The Monk's Road is an ancient causeway which appears in written records as early as the 13th century when it was likely to have been paved. The area is associated with Basingwerk Abbey in Wales which was handed to the Manor of Glossop by Henry II. Other relics from this period can be tracked down nearby and are worth seeking out.
