Great Eastern Railway relics
Three reminders of the Great Eastern Railway at Milton Fen Level Crossing, on the road from the village to the River Cam: in the foreground a cast-iron platform seat with the GER monogram, to the right of the crossing the crossing-keeper's hut and to the left part of the keeper's house (shown more clearly in TL4862 : Milton Fen Level Crossing from the west). The crossing is now protected by automatic lifting barriers, but in former times the crossing-keeper's job was to open conventional wooden gates.
