The statue of Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) was a gift from the Russian Federal Space Agency to the British Council to mark the 50th anniversary of manned space flight. It was unveiled on 14th July 2011 by Prince Michael of Kent and Elena Gagarina, Yuri Gagarin's daughter, and will remain in place for a year.
