This is the point where the Pennine Way leaves Hadrian's Wall and heads north towards the forests. The line can clearly be seen stretching across Ridley Common - I returned twelve years later to find that this path has almost disappeared, leading me to the conclusion that the Pennine Way now takes far less traffic than it used to
