NO0249 : Increasing the volume of water stored in Loch Ordie
3 km from Guay, Perth And Kinross, Great Britain

Increasing the volume of water stored in Loch Ordie
This is being done in conjunction with the Dowally Hydro Electric Scheme.
Raising the level of the loch by 400mm will considerably increase its volume. This volume when released into Dowally Burn will increase the energy generated by the Dowally Hydro Electric Scheme.
A flow control device in the concrete box on the left will control the flow of water out of the loch.

Dowally Hydro-Electric Scheme
This is a 'run-of-river' scheme where water is extracted from the Dowally Burn at an old abandoned dam, the intake; carried down the hillside alongside the watercourse in a pipeline or penstock; to the powerhouse housing the turbine, generator, transformer and switching units with a connection to the national grid; and finally the water returns to the burn in the tailrace.
This scheme passes from NO0148 through NO0147 to NO0047 .
