Cerrig y Ddinas
This shattered and gnarly hill is the "rock of the citadel", but traces of the hill fort are difficult to discern. The hill comprises an intrusive mass of dolerite (microgabbro) associated with the basaltic volcanic outburst at the end of the Caradoc igneous activity towards the end of the Ordovician. The tough dolerite has resisted weathering and erosion better than the hyaloclastites (basaltic tuff) into which it is intruded.
