Drainage Control above Within Clough
Drainage Control above Within Clough
These plastic strips are damming a small brook draining the high moors near Featherbed Moss. At first I guessed they were some kind of first defence against flooding down the valley or to create artificial ponds for livestock but they are actually there to retain moisture in the peat to decelerate erosion.
