Traffic lights and new road junction for proposed science park, Bristol Road, Birmingham

This location is on the Bristol Road (A38) at Edgbaston, near the former site of the BBC Pebble Mill studios.

In February 2003 BBC Birmingham announced that it was to move from its site at Pebble Mill to new facilities at the mailbox. Outline permission Permission was granted for the development of a science park, and the existing buildings were demolished. A new access from Bristol Road was constructed in 2005, with traffic lights installed but not operational when this photo was taken in January 2006.

Since 2006 progress on the development has been slow. Further outline permission was granted in 2006 for phase implementation of the development over 10 years.. The site's Masterplan was approved in August 2008, establishing a framework of broad development principles. In 2009 outline permission was granted for a medical facility on part of the site, with detailed consent for alterations to the access from Pebble Mill Road. In May 2011 proposals were announced for Birmingham's Dental Hospital to move to the site.
