Memorial to Sir John Lockton and children
Memorial to Sir John Lockton and children
Sir John Lockton 1554-1610 married Francis and had 11 children, of which only 3 survived - William (1584-1657), John and Francis.
Sir John acquired the Swineshead Abbey lands after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and in 1607 began to build himself a house from the ruins of the abbey. His wife, Dame Francis, erected a large monument in his memory in 1628. This is only part of the memorial as it stood elsewhere in the church and has been moved at some time.
