The Bull is one of three main islands off the west end of Dursey Island. The other ones are The Cow in V4239 and The Calf in V4437. This one is about 5 kilometres off Dursey Head although this view was taken from near the signal tower on the summit of Dursey. The Bull has a lighthouse built in 1889 to replace a short lived one on The Calf which was destroyed by a storm in 1881. Curiously The Bull is absent from the current Third Edition OSI 1:50,000 scale map. There is an inset showing all of Dursey Island and The Cow and The Calf, and space to extend the inset westwards, but the inset terminates on the 42000 Easting grid line. The grid square has been taken from the old OSI Half Inch to the Mile mapping instead. The lighthouse is at 51 degrees 35.521 minutes latitude North and 10 degrees 18.073 minutes longitude West if anyone wants to do a conversion into the Irish Grid!
