NY9628 : Sheepfold near summit of Monks Moor

4 km from Middleton-in-Teesdale, County Durham, Great Britain

Sheepfold near summit of Monks Moor
Sheepfold near summit of Monks Moor
The moorlands above Teesdale are heather and grass covered with rock in relatively short supply. Monk's Moor has more than its share of rock with the western side of the summit plateau having a length of outcropping low crag. The sheepfold seen here uses loose rock as a construction material with the back wall of the fold being the rock outcrop itself. More rock can be seen in the heather beyond.
