Church Square, Tring
Church Square, Tring
The octagonal brick pattern surrounds the head of a zebra - relating to the fact that Walter Rothschild kept zebras in Tring Park a hundred years ago.
The area is often used by charity stalls see SP9211 : Charity Stalls in Church Square, Tring
Tring Church Square & War Memorial
The Church Square was the site of the old market house LinkExternal link but that was demolished in 1900 to make and open space in front of the church. It was used for the open air market until the 1970s and then became an untidy car park, but towards the end of the century it was given a complete face lift, with a reproduction Victorian post box and a decent bus shelter. In 2015 the Market returned to where it should always have been - in the centre of the town.
The Town War Memorial SP9211 : Tring War Memorial is at the back of the Square, on the edge of the Churchyard
