Old turnpike beside National Trust's Wooden Pole car park
The line of this turnpike is still preserved although it was only actively in use for a few decades almost 200 years ago. The Duke of Rutland had it realigned to ensure his shooting lodge could have better views.
On the horizon is the wooden pole that was a marker for earlier travellers with pack horse trains (well, not this pole, it's probably been replaced a few times).
