Footbridge over the Beaulieu River, Matley Heath, New Forest
Footbridge over the Beaulieu River, Matley Heath, New Forest
This footbridge crosses the Beaulieu River on a path between Matley Wood and Mallard Wood. Part of the rail is missing, but it is otherwise in good condition. The swollen river is only a few centimetres below the bottom of the bridge - heavy rain over the previous 24 hours is draining into the river from the woodland and heathland to the west of here. As is often the case, the actual river crossing can be done without getting feet wet, but the softer approaches on either side are completely waterlogged.
