Here the glen is quite deep with steep sides falling from the plateau 130 metres above.
National Carriers Ltd was a state owned haulage company. At sometime in the 1980s they were sold off, and a lot of their trailers have ended up as feed stores in the Southern Uplands, much as the pre-Beeching rail stock did a generation earlier. There are two of these yellow trailers rotting beside the Whauplaw Burn.
