Black Lake, Delamere: consolidated schwingmoor
Black Lake, Delamere: consolidated schwingmoor
The Black Lake SSSI shows a very early stage in the development of a schwingmoor basin fen, a type of quaking bog. It is part of the Meres and Mosses Ramsar site. All the vegetation in this image (except the conifer trunks, far right top) is floating on the surface of a pool of water. See SJ5370 : Black Lake, Delamere: detail of floating vegetation for a slightly earlier stage in the development of the schwingmoor
