The Stanhope Trout Trap
The Stanhope Trout Trap
This was installed in 2000 to monitor the trout population in the Stanhope Burn. Adult trout going upstream to spawn are trapped in boxes in the flowing water, where they can be counted and weighed. Juvenile fish returning downstream are similarly halted and counted in the trap before release.
