John Knox Monument on the Necropolis
An imposing monument rising to a height of 70 feet, formed by a 58 foot high Doric column surmounted with a 12 foot high statue. Designed by Thomas Hamilton, it predates the surrounding cemetery.

"This Monument is Erected by Voluntary Contribution
To the Memory of John Knox;
The Chief instrument under God, of the Reformation
in Scotland, on the 22nd day of September 1825

He died - rejoicing in the Gospel - at Edinburgh
on 24th November A.D.1572, in the 67th year of his age"
